Within 10 days, the Overseas Free Vietnamese community and Vietnam lost two of their biggest advocates for democracy, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich of Virginia and the Honorable Tran Van Son of California. And I lost two dear friends and comrades-in-arm over the last 30 years. Attending his funeral, I thought how one could dedicate his whole life to the cause of freedom, literally in Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich's case to his last breath. He died on his flight to a conference on how to protect Vietnam from China's encroachment/invasion and how to bring democracy to Vietnam.
The Honorable Tran Van Son, a former congressman of the Republic of Vietnam, a political essayist, and an activist for democracy for Vietnam, passed away in his sleep, two days after teasing me in one of his last emails,
Their dedication and sacrifice have inspired many, including me. Their deaths are depressing me.
May they rest in peace and their souls bless the cause of freedom and democracy everywhere.
Very well written, Mr. Nam Phạm.
